Profile of the vihar homestay Welcome to Vihar Homestay, nestled in the beatiful western ghats, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. Surrounded by mountains, river valleys and water falls. You can enjoy a comfortable stay at our spacious homestay surrounded by wilderness. We have two bedrooms with attached bathrooms and a dormatory which can accommodate upto eight people.

Bed room, Vihar Homestay Take a walk around the homestay, visit the host's house which has a collection of vintage coins and palm-leaf manuscripts of ancient works. You can also take home some honey, kashaya, jackfruit papad, kokam and other delicacies.

Jackfruit chips, Vihar Homestay Traditional havyaka vegetarian food will be served from our own kitchen all day. Start your day with a healthy breakfast served with coffee or tea, lunch in the afternoon, local snacks and kashaya in the evening and dinner with local sweets for deserts.

Major Attractions

Unchalli Falls, Vihar Homestay Unchalli Falls, also known as Lushington Falls, is a waterfall created by a 116 metres (381 ft) drop in the Aghanashini river. The fall is located near Siddapur in Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka, India. The falls are named for J. D. Lushington, a District Collector for the British Government, who discovered the falls in 1845. Heggarne, a hamlet in Uttara Kannada district, is 35 km from Siddapur. The falls are reached by a 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) trek from Heggarne through thick forest. Here the river makes a cavalcade of water falls and eventually leaps into a steep valley to form a spectacular, picturesque waterfall. The falls are sometimes called Keppa Joga because of the deafening sound they make.

Jog Falls, Vihar Homestay Jog Falls, Gerosoppa Falls or Joga Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India, located in Sagara taluk, these segmented falls are a major tourist attraction. They are also called Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi. Jog Falls is created by the Sharavathi River dropping 253 m (830 ft), making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a drop of 335 m (1100 ft) in Meghalaya.

Yana, Vihar Homestay Yana is a village located in forests of the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, India which is known for the unusual rock formations (Karst) or (Asteroid). It is located in the Sahyadri mountain range of the Western Ghats, about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Karwar port, 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Sirsi, and 31 kilometres (19 mi) from Kumta. The two unique rock outcrops near the village are a tourist attraction and easily approachable by a small trek through 0.5 kilometres (0.31 mi) of thick forests.

Mattighatta Falls, Vihar Homestay Mattighatta Falls is formed by the Hasehalla stream. It is located about 30 km from Sirsi.

    By car
    You can drive your own car. Below are the distances from some of the nearest towns.
    • Sirsi: 36 km
    • Siddapura: 30 km
    • Talaguppa: 60 km
    Please note that during the rainy season from June to September, you can only reach upto the host's home from where you'll have to walk to the homestay which is about a kilo metre away. Safe and secure parking will be arranged at host's home during this time.
    By bus
    Many buses ply to Sirsi from Bangalore, Puna, Mumbai and Hyderabad. We can provide pickup facility from Sirsi, Siddapura and Talaguppa to the homestay.
    By Train
    The nearest railway station is at Talaguppa with trains destined from Bangalore and Mysore. We can arrange pick up facility from the railway station.
